Fun in the Sun at Turks & Caicos

To say I LOVE the ocean is an understatement. Ever since I moved from Brazil to the U.S, it is no surprise that I am always trying to plan the next perfect beach vacation. This time it was a perfect combination: girls trip and beach vacation. Yes, it sounds like every girl’s dream “vaca” – and it was!

We started planning our trip 4 months in advance. Girls night out, a couple bottles of wine and delicious sushi. We picked the destination and the planning started. Four girls, no kids or husbands, a gorgeous resort and lots of down time laying on the beach. I know you might be slightly jealous of me right now, but if you have never done this, I hope this post will inspire you to do so! A long weekend with your girlfriends on the beach is better than 6 months of therapy sessions!

Turks & Caicos was always on my bucket list of places to visit. What is not to like? Turquoise water, cool white sand, friendly people and delicious food. Take your pick! After a lot of research, we picked our hotel for this “boring” girls trip. The Seven Stars Resort was everything we had dreamed and beyond. Recommended by the Forbes Travel Guide and voted one of the top 25 Spas in the world by Conde Nast Traveler, this hotel will live up to its reputation.  With its gorgeous beach front location and luxurious accommodations, we knew we were in for a treat. We were greeted with delicious rum cocktails upon arriving from a 30 minute drive in the hotel transfer. The lobby was beautiful, wide and open and the staff was incredibly friendly.

The four of us were staying in one room so we reserved a stunning and spacious Junior Suite. We had 2 bedrooms, a full living room, kitchen and a balcony with the most marvelous views. I had to pinch myself to think we would wake up to that view for 4 days. The rooms were incredibly comfortable with walk in closets and a master bath that you could throw a party in. Although we did not spend much time in the room – after all, we were in Turks and Caicos – we did enjoy a good amount of time on our balcony.

If I can give you one valuable tip about Turks and Caicos is to find a cab driver that you like, develop a relationship and use that driver for the entire length of your stay. The reason is for each cab ride you will be charged a “per person” rate opposed to having a “meter”. Cab rides can become really expensive really quickly.

On the other hand, if you get the number of a driver and let him know you will be using him during your time on the island, you should be able to negotiate a much better rate. We were so lucky to meet our Taxi driver, “Sir Charles“, who apparently is a legend on the island. Everyone knew “Sir Charles” and he knew everyone. Sir Charles was a pleasure and a character! We went everywhere with him, and even if we had forgotten his business card at the hotel, all we had to do was ask the establishment to call Sir Charles!

One of the places we visited and I very much recommend is the Conch Shack and Rum Bar.  Located about 30 minutes away from the hotel on the Blue Hills Beach, this place is fun guaranteed. Rum cocktails and fresh conch in each and every way possible is the recipe for a perfect afternoon. As you arrive, you look at the endless beach covered with conch. The food was fresh and we were able to relax while enjoying the view from this picturesque beach.

Our very favorite spot, however, was recommended by Sir Charles. It is the beautiful Bugaloo Conch Crawl. This place was all about fun! There was live music playing, more fresh delicious food and very friendly and attentive staff.  The coconut trees and rustic tables set the atmosphere.  We were there for an entire afternoon. We ate, drank and had the time of our lives. At the end, the live singer was literally singing to us as we danced on the sand without a care in the world.  No doubt a must go spot!

We also enjoyed the stunning beach at the Seven Stars Resort. Not only did we relax and lay out in the sun like 4 lizards, we took advantage of the many activities. Among kayaking, snorkeling and stand-up paddle boarding, there was something for everyone. Some mornings I woke up early to go for a run on the beach. Some days I chose yoga. Anything to get our appetite going for the delicious buffet breakfast – which we never missed! And some days we simply did “nothing” other than order a drink on the sand and watch the waves crashing.

All in all, it was an unforgettable trip full of laughter, girl talks, delightful food, delicious drinks and the most spectacular turquoise ocean to wash away any stress we might have brought along. This was our second yearly G.O.T (girls only trip) and we certainly intend to keep the tradition going! The questions is: where are we going next? Until then, I hope you had fun reading this post and that you keep coming back for more!  Cheers!
